How to setup a custom domain for my account ?

One of our most requested features is domain mapping. This allows our users to use their own domain instead of the default linqs.cc.

What is a DNS A record?

The “A” stands for “address” and is the most basic type of DNS record : it indicates the IP address of a given domain . For example, if you pull DNS records from linqs.cc, the A record currently returns an IP address of: 146.88.237.22.

What is a CNAME record?

A Canonical Name (CNAME) DNS record specifies that a domain name is an alias of another canonical domain name. You can add or update your CNAME records from the Domains page of your linqs account.

Step by step instructions

  • Click + CREATE button on the upper right side of the page.
  • Write the domain or subdomain you want your links to be accessible with.Enter the Custom URL.
  • Write the Custom Index and 404 URLs. They will be used to redirect to a specific URL when visitors land on the index of the domain or if they hit a 404 page.
  • Click Create .

While you can choose any of the two methods, we recommend the use of the A record that point to 146.88.237.22

A subdomain is a prefix that goes before your domain (like www or bio). You can choose any subdomain you’d like. The root domain is simply your domain name itself (example.com) without any prefix in front of it.

Some common prefixes people use for the bio link pages are “bio” (bio.mydomain.com) or “links” (links.mydomain.com). The default “www” (www.example.com) works too, but it’s generally used by your own website !

If you choose bio as your prefix, your subdomain will be bio.mydomain.com. This will become the URL used to access your linqs pages.

If you’re mapping to a subdomain, you’ll use an A record or a CNAME record, and your domain provider will ask you for these two fields:

Subdomain/Host: You need to enter just the prefix you’ve chosen for your subdomain. Ex- you just need to type in “bio” for the name field.

Target/Points to (is an alias of): All you need to do is type in “linqs.cc.” (Some domain providers may require that you insert a dot (.) at the end of the target URL.)

Here’s a sample of a CNAME record set up properly in OVH:

In this example we showed you how to add a subdomain to your linqs account. The same principle apply if you want to use a whole domain. In that case, simply leave the Host/Subdomain field empy.

Once your domain added, our team will configure it (max 24 hours) and you’ll be able to use it on your account.

Below are links to popular hosting platforms, along with guides for setting up a CNAME. If you don’t see yours below, searching your platform along with the keyword CNAME should point you in the right article.
